Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Defective inverter module (on inverter models), Open or shorted compressor windings, Faulty main control board output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator. Work only if you are comfortable around mains voltage and sealed refrigeration components. Do not open the sealed system.
Steps:
- 1. Listen and observe: When powered, you may hear a click from the relay and then a hum followed by another click. Repeated clicking without running suggests a start issue.
- 2. Access the compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower cover to expose the compressor, start device, and main PCB/inverter.
- 3. Inspect the start relay/PTC: On non-inverter models, unplug the start device from the compressor terminals and check for signs of burning or rattling. Replace if damaged.
- 4. Test compressor windings: With the unit unplugged and start device removed, measure resistance between the three compressor pins. You should see low but non-zero resistances and no continuity to ground. If windings are open or shorted to ground, the compressor is faulty and requires professional replacement.
- 5. Inverter models: If your De Dietrich uses an inverter, check the inverter module for burnt components or smell. Replacement of the inverter should be done by a technician.
- 6. Check wiring and PCB: Verify that the harness from the PCB to the compressor/start device is intact. If all hardware checks out, the main PCB may not be commanding the compressor correctly.
- 7. Do not attempt sealed system repairs: If the compressor itself is defective, contact an authorized service center for replacement and recharging.
