Possible Causes

Failed freezer evaporator fan motor, Ice blockage around fan blades, Faulty fan motor hall sensor (feedback), Damaged fan wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels.

  • Listen for fan: With doors closed for several minutes, then opened, listen for the freezer fan behind the rear panel. No sound suggests a fan issue.
  • Remove freezer rear panel: Take out shelves and ice bin, then remove screws securing the rear evaporator cover. Carefully pull it forward.
  • Check for ice: If the fan is encased in ice, defrost the area with a hair dryer on low, keeping it moving and away from plastic to avoid warping. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
  • Spin fan by hand: If the fan is stiff or seized, replace the evaporator fan motor assembly.
  • Inspect wiring: Ensure the fan connector is fully seated and wires are not broken where they pass through the liner.
