Possible Causes

Open or shorted refrigerator NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Poor contact at sensor connector on main PCB, Faulty main control PCB temperature input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal panels.

Steps:

  • Locate the fridge sensor: In most Etna refrigerators, the refrigerator NTC sensor is behind the rear inner liner of the fresh food compartment, often clipped into a small plastic housing or behind a vent cover.
  • Visual inspection: Remove the sensor cover. Check if the sensor probe is broken, loose, or covered in heavy ice. If encased in ice, defrost the compartment fully by unplugging the unit and leaving doors open for several hours (protect the floor from water).
  • Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the connector. Ensure the connector is firmly attached and wires are not pinched or cut.
  • Basic resistance check (if you have a multimeter): With power still disconnected, unplug the sensor from the harness and measure resistance. A typical NTC sensor should read between ~5–30 kΩ depending on temperature. A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace sensor if faulty: If the sensor is open/shorted or physically damaged, replace it with an Etna refrigerator NTC sensor compatible with your model. Route the new sensor wiring along the original path and secure it with clips.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit covers, restore power, and monitor if the E1 code clears and temperature stabilizes.
