Possible Causes
Failed magnetic reed door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken door switch wiring in hinge area, Faulty main control PCB input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working around door switches or control boards.
Steps:
- Identify door switch type: Etna refrigerators may use a mechanical plunger switch in the frame or a magnetic reed sensor hidden in the cabinet with a magnet in the door.
- Check alignment: For magnetic systems, ensure the door closes fully and that the magnet (often embedded near the top of the door) aligns with the sensor area. Warped gaskets or hinges can cause misalignment.
- Test mechanical switch: For plunger switches, press the switch by hand and listen for a click. If it feels loose or does not click, it may be faulty.
- Electrical test: With power off, remove the switch and check continuity with a multimeter while pressing/releasing it. No change in continuity indicates a bad switch.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness in the top hinge area for broken or pinched wires, especially on French-door or side-by-side models.
- Replace faulty switch: Install a new Etna door switch / reed sensor as appropriate for your model. Ensure it is firmly seated and aligned.
- Restore power and test: Confirm that the interior light and door alarm now operate correctly and that the E10 code clears.
