Possible Causes

Corrupted EEPROM on main control PCB, Faulty mode selection logic, Power surge damage to control memory, Defective main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the control board.

Steps:

  • Power reset: Unplug the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes to allow capacitors to discharge and the control to fully reset. Plug back in and check if E18 clears.
  • Factory reset (if available): Consult the user manual for a key combination to reset settings to factory defaults. Perform this reset and observe behavior.
  • Check for surge damage: Inspect the main control PCB for burn marks or damaged components, especially near the low-voltage regulator and memory IC.
  • Use surge protection: If E18 occurred after a storm or power event, consider using a surge-protected outlet to prevent recurrence.
  • Replace main control PCB: If resets do not clear the error and the board shows signs of failure, replace the Etna main control PCB.
