Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the freezer or rear panels.

Steps:

  • Access evaporator fan: Remove freezer drawers and the rear inner panel. The evaporator fan motor is mounted above or beside the evaporator coil.
  • Check for ice blockage: Inspect the fan blades and shroud for ice buildup. If the fan is frozen in place, fully defrost the unit by unplugging and leaving doors open. Do not force the blades.
  • Spin test: With power still off, gently spin the fan blades by hand. They should rotate freely without grinding. Stiff or seized movement indicates a bad motor.
  • Check wiring: Inspect the fan harness and connector for damage or loose pins. Reseat the connector.
  • Voltage test (advanced): With the unit powered and calling for cooling, a technician can measure voltage at the fan connector. No voltage may indicate a control board issue.
  • Replace fan motor if faulty: Install a new Etna evaporator fan motor assembly if the motor is seized, noisy, or open-circuit. Transfer the fan blade if it is separate and undamaged.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and confirm that the fan runs and the E6 code clears.
