Possible Causes
Failed ambient NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from mounting position, Damaged sensor wiring near cabinet frame, Faulty main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any trim or control panels.
Steps:
- Locate ambient sensor: On many Etna refrigerators, the ambient NTC sensor is located behind the front control panel, in the top hinge area, or behind a small grille on the cabinet front.
- Inspect sensor: Remove the relevant cover and check that the sensor is intact and not hanging loose. Ensure it is not touching hot components or trapped in insulation.
- Check wiring and connector: Follow the sensor leads to the main control PCB. Verify that the connector is fully seated and that the cable is not cut or pinched.
- Measure resistance: With the sensor disconnected and at room temperature, measure resistance. Compare to expected NTC values; open or short indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace sensor if faulty: Install a new Etna ambient NTC sensor and secure it in the original location so it can accurately sense room temperature.
- Restore power and test: Plug the unit back in and check if the E8 code clears and the unit responds normally to ambient changes.
