Possible Causes
Blocked defrost drain hole behind freezer panel, Ice plug in drain tube, Food debris or mold in drain channel, Misaligned drain funnel on evaporator tray
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels or using hot water.
Steps:
- Locate drain outlet: Remove the freezer rear inner panel to expose the evaporator. At the bottom center, locate the defrost drain hole or trough.
- Clear ice and debris: Use a turkey baster or syringe with warm (not boiling) water to flush the drain hole repeatedly until water flows freely into the drain pan under the unit.
- Clean drain tube: From the rear, remove the lower panel and locate the end of the drain tube above the compressor. Remove it from the drain pan and clean it with warm water and a flexible brush if accessible.
- Check drain funnel: Ensure the drain funnel or rubber grommet at the bottom of the freezer is properly seated and not deformed.
- Reassemble and monitor: Refit panels, restore power, and monitor for further leaks over the next few days.
