Possible Causes

Defective freezer NTC temperature sensor, Loose or corroded sensor connector at evaporator cover, Damaged sensor wiring harness in freezer liner, Faulty main control board (Fagor freezer sensor input)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing any internal panels. Wear cut-resistant gloves when working near sharp metal edges.

Diagnostic steps:

  • 1. Confirm symptoms: Check if the freezer is warm or fluctuating in temperature while E2 is displayed. Listen for the compressor and evaporator fan operation.
  • 2. Access the freezer sensor: Remove freezer drawers and baskets. Unscrew and remove the rear inner panel (evaporator cover). The freezer NTC sensor is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted in a small plastic holder on the panel.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Look for ice buildup around the sensor, damaged insulation, or broken wires. Carefully defrost heavy ice with a hair dryer on low, keeping it away from plastic parts and wiring.
  • 4. Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor from its plug. Measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature, it should be in the several kΩ range and change smoothly when warmed between your fingers. Infinite or zero resistance indicates failure.
  • 5. Check harness to PCB: If the sensor tests OK, trace the harness back to the main control board at the rear of the appliance. Check for pinched or broken wires and ensure the connector is fully seated on the PCB.
  • 6. Replace the freezer NTC: If faulty, install a new Fagor-compatible freezer temperature sensor. Clip it securely in the original location to ensure accurate temperature sensing.
  • 7. Reset and test: Reassemble the evaporator cover, restore power, and monitor the freezer temperature and display. If E2 persists with a known-good sensor and wiring, the main PCB is likely defective and should be replaced by a professional.
