Possible Causes

Faulty compressor start relay or PTC device, Defective compressor run capacitor, Failed inverter module (on inverter-driven Fagor compressors), Faulty main control board output to compressor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator. The compressor and start components are connected to mains voltage. If you are not experienced with electrical testing, contact a professional.

Steps:

  • 1. Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor, start relay/PTC, and control board area.
  • 2. Listen and observe: After plugging in (for brief testing only), listen for clicking from the relay and humming from the compressor. Immediately unplug again before handling components.
  • 3. Inspect start relay/PTC: Disconnect the relay from the compressor terminals. Shake it gently; if it rattles or shows signs of burning, it is likely faulty.
  • 4. Test compressor windings: With the fridge unplugged and relay removed, measure resistance between the compressor terminals (C, S, R). You should see low but finite resistances; any open circuit or direct short to ground indicates a bad compressor.
  • 5. Check run capacitor (if fitted): Disconnect and test capacitance with a meter. Replace if out of tolerance or physically swollen.
  • 6. Inverter models: If your Fagor uses an inverter compressor, inspect the inverter module for burnt components. Testing live inverter outputs should only be done by a qualified technician.
  • 7. Replace faulty start components: Install a new OEM start relay/PTC and capacitor as required. Reconnect to the compressor and secure wiring.
  • 8. Control board consideration: If the compressor and start components test good but E6 persists and the compressor never receives power, the main control board or inverter module may be defective and should be replaced professionally.
