Freezer cold but refrigerator compartment warm; food spoils in fresh food section while freezer seems normal.

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing internal panels. Beware of sharp plastic and metal edges.

Steps:

• 1. Check vents: Ensure that food items are not blocking the cold air vents in the refrigerator and freezer sections.
• 2. Listen for fan: Close the doors for a minute, then open the freezer and listen for the evaporator fan. If silent, the fan may be faulty (see E8).
• 3. Inspect for frost: Remove the freezer rear panel to check for heavy ice buildup on the evaporator and around the air channels. Defrost fully if iced over.
• 4. Check air damper: On models with a motorized or manual damper between compartments, access the damper housing (usually at the top rear of the fridge section). Verify that the flap moves freely and is not broken. Replace the damper assembly if stuck or damaged.
• 5. Reassemble and test: After clearing ice and ensuring free airflow, restore power and monitor refrigerator temperature over 24 hours.
