Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before deep cleaning. Wear gloves and ensure good ventilation.
Steps:
- 1. Remove contents: Take out all food and removable shelves, bins, and drawers.
- 2. Clean interior: Wash all surfaces with a solution of warm water and baking soda or mild detergent. Pay attention to seams and corners.
- 3. Clean gaskets: Gently scrub door gaskets with a mild bleach solution (if compatible with the material) or disinfectant to remove mold.
- 4. Check drain pan: At the rear bottom, locate and remove the drain pan if possible. Clean and disinfect it thoroughly.
- 5. Air out: Leave doors open for several hours to dry completely before restarting.
- 6. Odor absorbers: Place an open box of baking soda or a refrigerator deodorizer inside to help prevent future odors.
