Possible Causes

Evaporator fan motor failure in refrigerator compartment, Blocked air vents or overpacked shelves, Defective refrigerator temperature sensor (NTC probe), Refrigeration system issue (low refrigerant or weak compressor)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing any panels or working near electrical components. Avoid using sharp tools on plastic parts or the evaporator.

Step 1 – Check door closure and loading:

  • Verify the fresh food door closes fully and the gasket seals all around. Look for gaps, torn gasket, or items blocking the door.
  • Reduce overpacking: leave space around the rear and side air vents so cold air can circulate.
  • Confirm the set temperature is correct (typically +3 °C to +5 °C for Fhiaba fresh food).

Step 2 – Inspect airflow and fan operation:

  • Open the fresh food door and listen for the evaporator fan (usually behind the rear interior panel). It should run when the compressor is running and the door switch is pressed.
  • Press and hold the door switch with the door open; if the fan does not start after a few minutes of compressor operation, the fan motor or control may be faulty.
  • Check for ice buildup on the rear panel; heavy frost indicates a defrost or airflow problem.

Step 3 – Check the temperature sensor (NTC):

  • Locate the fresh food NTC sensor (often clipped to the evaporator or mounted in a small housing on the rear wall).
  • With power disconnected, inspect the wiring harness and connector for corrosion or loose pins.
  • If you have a multimeter and the service manual, measure the sensor resistance at known temperatures and compare to the Fhiaba specification. Replace if out of range.

Step 4 – Reset the alarm:

  • After correcting obvious issues, close the door and restore power.
  • Use the control panel to acknowledge/clear the AL01 alarm (usually by pressing the alarm or confirm key).
  • Allow 12–24 hours for temperatures to stabilize. If AL01 returns and the compartment remains warm, a sealed system or control board fault is likely and a professional technician should test compressor performance and refrigerant charge.
