High temperature alarm in the freezer compartment; display shows AL02, food in freezer is soft or thawing.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any interior panels. Do not use knives or metal tools to remove ice from the evaporator.
Step 1 – Check door and loading:
- Ensure the freezer door closes fully and the gasket is intact and clean.
- Remove items blocking the rear or side vents; avoid stacking food directly against the back wall.
Step 2 – Inspect for frost buildup:
- Look at the rear interior panel of the freezer. A thick, even sheet of frost suggests a defrost failure.
- If heavily iced, unplug the unit, remove food to a backup freezer, and allow a full manual defrost (doors open) for 12–24 hours with towels to catch water.
- After defrosting, restore power and monitor. If AL02 returns within a few days, the automatic defrost system needs service.
Step 3 – Check evaporator fan operation:
- With the unit running, press the freezer door switch and listen for the fan behind the rear panel.
- If the fan does not run but the compressor is on, the fan motor or its wiring is likely faulty.
- Access the fan by removing the rear interior panel (with power off), inspect for ice obstruction, and spin the fan blade by hand. Replace the fan motor if seized or noisy.
Step 4 – Sensor and control checks:
- Locate the freezer NTC sensor and inspect its wiring harness.
- If you can measure resistance, compare to Fhiaba's temperature/resistance chart; replace if out of spec.
- If fan, defrost components, and sensor test good but AL02 persists, the issue may be with the main control board or sealed system; contact a qualified Fhiaba technician.
