Possible Causes

Normal automatic defrost cycle, Control software indicating defrost status, User misinterpreting status as error

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Understanding dF: On some Finlux refrigerators, dF or DF on the display is not a fault but an indication that the appliance is in an automatic defrost cycle.

  • During defrost, the compressor and fans stop while the defrost heater melts ice from the evaporator.
  • This can last 15–30 minutes and may repeat periodically.

What to do:

  • Do not unplug the appliance during a normal defrost cycle.
  • Allow the cycle to complete; the display should return to normal temperature indication automatically.
  • Ensure doors are closed properly to avoid excessive frost buildup that can lengthen defrost times.

When to be concerned: If dF remains on the display for several hours and the interior warms significantly, there may be a defrost control fault (heater, sensor, or PCB). In that case, follow the defrost-related fault guides (E3/E4) or contact a technician.
