Possible Causes
Open or shorted fresh food thermistor, Damaged thermistor harness, Corroded connector at control board, Failed main control board (PCB)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to the refrigerator at the wall outlet before removing panels or handling wiring.
This code usually indicates the fresh food (refrigerator section) temperature sensor is out of range.
- Power reset: Unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes, then plug back in. If F1 returns after a few minutes of operation, continue.
- Check thermistor location: Locate the fresh food thermistor (often clipped to the liner wall or behind a small cover in the refrigerator compartment). Ensure it is firmly clipped in place and not dangling or touching the evaporator cover directly.
- Inspect wiring: Remove the interior cover as needed and visually inspect the thermistor wiring harness for cuts, pinches, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector to the harness.
- Basic resistance check (for skilled users): With power still disconnected, unplug the thermistor from the harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. At around 25°C (77°F), most Fisher & Paykel NTC thermistors read roughly 5–10 kΩ. If it reads open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is faulty.
- Replace if faulty: If the thermistor is out of spec or physically damaged, replace the fresh food temperature sensor with a Fisher & Paykel-compatible part. Reassemble covers and restore power.
- If F1 persists: After replacing the sensor, if F1 still appears, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
