Possible Causes
Closed or restricted household water supply, Clogged water filter, Failed ice maker fill valve, Frozen fill tube to ice maker
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the water supply before working on the water system.
F17 indicates the ice maker is not filling with water correctly.
- Check water supply: Confirm the saddle valve or shutoff valve to the refrigerator is fully open. Ensure the supply line is not kinked behind the unit.
- Replace water filter: If the filter is older than 6 months or water flow is weak, replace the Fisher & Paykel water filter and flush according to the manual.
- Inspect fill tube: Look at the plastic tube that directs water into the ice maker. If it is frozen, thaw it gently with warm air (hair dryer on low) and correct any air leaks that may cause freezing.
- Test fill valve: Access the rear of the unit and locate the water inlet valve. During an ice maker fill cycle, the valve should energize. If it never opens and coil resistance is open, replace the valve.
- Check for leaks: After any work, restore water and power, then monitor for drips around the valve and connections.
- Persistent F17: If the mechanical system is sound but F17 remains, the ice maker module or control board may be faulty and require professional diagnosis.
