Display shows F6; refrigerator may not cool, or compressor may not start.

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the rear service area. High voltage is present at the inverter and compressor terminals.

F6 generally indicates a problem with the compressor drive system.

• Access rear compartment: Pull the refrigerator away from the wall and remove the lower rear cover to expose the compressor and inverter module.
• Visual inspection: Check the inverter module (mounted on or near the compressor) for burn marks, melted plastic, or a burnt smell. Inspect wiring connectors for looseness or corrosion.
• Reseat connectors: With power disconnected, unplug and firmly reconnect the harness between the inverter and main control board, and between the inverter and compressor.
• Check cooling fan: Ensure the condenser fan near the compressor spins freely and is not obstructed; a failed fan can cause overheating and inverter shutdown.
• Power-on test (observe only): Restore power and listen for the compressor attempting to start. If F6 reappears quickly and the compressor stays silent, the inverter or compressor may be faulty.
• Professional service recommended: Testing inverter output and compressor windings requires specialized tools and knowledge. Contact a Fisher & Paykel-authorized technician for further diagnosis and replacement of the inverter module or compressor.
