Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing freezer panels or testing components.
Step 1: Locate the freezer thermistor
- Remove freezer baskets and shelves.
- The thermistor is typically clipped to the evaporator cover or side wall behind a small plastic housing.
Step 2: Inspect and test
- Remove the sensor cover and visually inspect the thermistor and wiring.
- Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at room temperature or in ice water (about 32°F / 0°C). Compare to the resistance chart in the tech sheet.
- If the meter reads OL (open), the thermistor is defective.
Step 3: Replace the thermistor
- Install a new Frigidaire-compatible freezer thermistor, routing wires as original.
- Secure the sensor in the same location and reinstall the cover and freezer components.
Step 4: Reset
- Restore power and allow the unit to run. The OP FZ code should clear once the control sees a valid sensor reading.
When to call a technician: If the thermistor tests good but the code remains, the wiring in the cabinet or the main control board may be open and require professional service.
