Freezer temperature display shows SH or SH FZ; freezer may run continuously or not maintain proper temperature.

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the freezer evaporator area.

Step 1: Access the freezer thermistor

• Remove baskets and shelves from the freezer.
• Remove screws securing the rear evaporator cover and gently pull it forward.
• Locate the thermistor clipped to the evaporator tubing or wall.

Step 2: Inspect for ice and moisture

• Look for heavy frost or ice around the sensor and connector.
• Check for water intrusion that could cause a short.

Step 3: Test the thermistor

• Disconnect the thermistor from its harness.
• Measure resistance with a multimeter. A shorted sensor will read near 0 ohms.
• If shorted, replace the thermistor.

Step 4: Reassemble and test

• Install the new thermistor, ensuring it is properly clipped and wires are not pinched.
• Reinstall the evaporator cover and freezer components.
• Restore power and verify that SH FZ clears after a short run time.

When to call a technician: If the new thermistor does not resolve the error, the harness or control board may be shorted and should be checked by a technician.
