Possible Causes
Shorted fresh food thermistor, Moisture intrusion into thermistor connector, Shorted thermistor wiring harness, Failed main control board sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before working on internal components.
Step 1: Access the fresh food thermistor
- Remove shelves and locate the small sensor cover on the rear or side wall.
- Remove the cover to expose the thermistor and connector.
Step 2: Inspect for moisture and corrosion
- Look for condensation or water inside the sensor housing.
- Check the connector for green/white corrosion or signs of a short.
Step 3: Test the thermistor
- Disconnect the thermistor from the harness.
- Measure resistance with a multimeter. A shorted thermistor will read near 0 ohms.
- If shorted, replace the thermistor.
Step 4: Dry and protect the area
- Dry any moisture with a clean cloth.
- Ensure the new thermistor and connector are fully seated and the cover is properly installed to limit future moisture intrusion.
Step 5: Restore power
- Reconnect power and monitor the display. The SH code should clear once a valid sensor reading is detected.
When to call a technician: If the thermistor tests good but SH persists, the harness or control board sensor circuit may be shorted and should be evaluated by a professional.
