Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain tube with ice or debris, Misaligned or cracked drain pan, Frozen drain trough under evaporator, Loose water line connection near front

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels. Water on the floor can be slippery—wipe up spills promptly.

Step 1: Identify leak source

  • Pull the refrigerator forward and inspect underneath for water around the drain pan.
  • Check inside the freezer for ice buildup on the bottom or under drawers.

Step 2: Clear defrost drain

  • Remove the rear freezer panel to access the evaporator and drain trough.
  • Use hot (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush the drain hole until water flows freely into the drain pan below.
  • Remove any debris or slime from the drain tube.

Step 3: Inspect drain pan

  • From the rear bottom, locate the drain pan on top of the compressor area.
  • Ensure it is properly seated and not cracked. Replace if damaged.

Step 4: Check water line connections

  • If the unit has an ice maker or dispenser, inspect the water inlet valve and tubing for leaks.

When to call a technician: If the drain repeatedly freezes or the cabinet is cracked around the drain, professional repair may be needed.
