Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain tube, Ice blockage in drain trough, Cracked drain pan, Misaligned drain tube at pan
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels. Use towels to catch water and prevent slipping.
- 1. Inspect inside freezer: Remove drawers and rear panel. If there is a sheet of ice on the freezer floor, the defrost drain is likely clogged.
- 2. Clear drain trough: Use warm water to melt ice in the drain trough below the evaporator. Do not use sharp tools.
- 3. Flush drain tube: From inside the freezer, use a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush warm water down the drain until it flows freely into the drain pan under the unit.
- 4. Check drain pan: At the rear bottom, inspect the drain pan for cracks and ensure the drain tube is properly inserted. Replace a damaged pan.
