Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain tube, Cracked drain pan, Loose water line connection, Leaking water filter housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the water supply before working on water lines. Use towels to catch water.
Steps to stop leaks:
- 1. Identify leak source: Pull the unit out and inspect underneath and behind while someone pours a small amount of water into the drain trough inside the freezer.
- 2. Clear defrost drain: If water backs up into the freezer, the defrost drain tube is clogged. Access it from the freezer (under the evaporator) and from the rear. Flush with hot water using a turkey baster until it flows freely into the drain pan.
- 3. Inspect drain pan: Check the plastic drain pan above the compressor for cracks or misalignment. Replace if damaged.
- 4. Check water connections: Inspect the water inlet valve, filter housing, and tubing for drips while the dispenser or ice maker is calling for water. Tighten or replace leaking components.
