Possible Causes
Ice blockage in defrost drain tube, Food debris or algae growth in drain, Cracked or misaligned drain funnel, Drain heater (if fitted) not working
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working inside the cabinet.
Steps:
- 1. Locate drain outlet: In many Gaggenau models, the defrost drain is located at the rear of the freezer compartment, below the evaporator.
- 2. Remove rear panel: Take out drawers and remove the rear panel to access the evaporator and drain trough.
- 3. Clear ice: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to melt ice in the drain opening. Repeat until water flows freely down the tube.
- 4. Clean drain tube: From the rear of the appliance (if accessible), remove the drain tube and clean it with warm soapy water. Reinstall securely.
- 5. Check drain funnel and heater: Ensure the drain funnel is properly positioned under the evaporator and not cracked. If a small drain heater is present and open-circuit, replace it.
Tip: Regularly cleaning door gaskets and preventing food debris from entering the drain area will reduce future clogs.
