Possible Causes

Restricted water filter, Low household water pressure, Faulty water inlet valve, Ice maker module failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the water supply to the refrigerator before disconnecting any water lines. Unplug the unit if removing panels.

  • Check water filter: If the filter is older than 6 months or water flow from the dispenser is weak, replace the GE water filter (e.g., MWF, XWF, RPWFE depending on model). Run 1–2 gallons of water through to purge air.
  • Verify water pressure: Ensure the saddle valve or shutoff valve on the house line is fully open. GE typically requires at least 20 psi. Kinked or crushed supply tubing can also reduce flow.
  • Inspect ice maker fill tube: Look at the plastic tube that feeds water into the ice maker. If it is frozen, thaw it gently with a hair dryer on low. A frozen tube often indicates a seeping water valve that may need replacement.
  • Test water inlet valve: Listen for the valve when the ice maker calls for water (you should hear a brief hum). If there is no sound and no water fill, the dual or triple water inlet valve may be faulty.
  • Reset ice maker: Many GE ice makers have a test or reset button or a power switch. Turn the ice maker off for 30 seconds, then back on, or press the test button to initiate a cycle.
  • If still no ice: The ice maker assembly itself may be defective and require replacement.
