Possible Causes
Recent power outage, Loose power cord connection, Tripped household breaker, Faulty outlet or power strip
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you suspect electrical issues in the home, turn off power at the breaker and consult an electrician.
- Confirm power stability: The PF code on GE refrigerators usually just indicates a recent power interruption. Check that lights and other appliances in the same area are working normally.
- Check the plug and outlet: Make sure the refrigerator's power cord is fully seated in the wall outlet and not in a weak extension cord or power strip. GE recommends plugging directly into a properly grounded wall outlet.
- Reset temperatures: On the control panel, verify that the fresh food and freezer setpoints are correct (commonly 37°F for fresh food and 0°F for freezer). Adjust if they have reverted to factory defaults.
- Clear the code: Press and hold the appropriate reset or alarm button (varies by model) for 3–5 seconds to clear the PF indication.
- Monitor operation: Over the next 24 hours, confirm that temperatures stabilize. If PF reappears without actual power loss, the control board or power supply may be unstable and should be checked by a technician.
