Possible Causes
Dirty condenser coils, Inoperative condenser fan, Poor ventilation around refrigerator, Mullion heater stuck on
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning coils or accessing the rear compartment.
- Clean condenser coils: Remove dust and debris from coils and surrounding area with a brush and vacuum.
- Check condenser fan: Ensure the fan runs when the compressor is on. Replace the fan motor if it does not operate.
- Improve ventilation: Make sure there is adequate clearance around the sides, top, and back of the refrigerator per GE specifications.
- Mullion heater: Some models have a heater in the door mullion to prevent condensation. If the center strip is excessively hot, a control issue may be keeping the heater on too long; a technician may need to evaluate the control board.
