Possible Causes

Frozen water line in door, Clogged water filter, Faulty dispenser switch or paddle, Kinked water line

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any water lines.

  • Check water filter: Replace the GE water filter if older than 6 months or if flow has decreased. Purge air by dispensing several minutes of water.
  • Inspect for frozen line: On models with water lines in the freezer door, a frozen line can stop flow. Open the door and feel the area behind the dispenser. Some models have a heater kit to prevent freezing; consult GE if this is a recurring issue.
  • Test dispenser switch: Press the paddle and listen for a click and the sound of the water valve. If the valve does not hum, the switch or control may be faulty.
  • Check for kinks: Pull the refrigerator out and inspect the water line from the wall to the inlet valve for kinks or crushing.
  • Valve test: If the valve hums but no water flows and the filter and lines are clear, the water inlet valve may be restricted and should be replaced.
