Possible Causes
Blocked defrost drain tube, Ice buildup in drain trough, Misrouted drain tube at rear, Debris in drain grommet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior panels.
- Remove drawers: Take out crisper drawers and shelves to access the rear of the fresh food or freezer section (depending on model).
- Locate drain trough: Look for a trough or channel at the bottom of the evaporator area. If filled with ice, the drain is clogged.
- Clear ice: Use warm water and a turkey baster to melt and flush the ice. Avoid sharp tools.
- Clean drain tube: From the rear of the refrigerator, locate the drain tube and rubber grommet where it exits into the drain pan. Remove and clean the grommet and tube of slime or debris.
- Reassemble and test: Pour a small amount of warm water into the drain trough to confirm it flows freely to the pan.
