Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup blocking fan, Loose fan harness connection, Faulty main control board fan driver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the freezer compartment fan.
EC indicates a problem with the evaporator fan or its circuit.
- Listen for fan: With the doors closed for several minutes and the unit running, open the freezer door and listen for the evaporator fan. Many models stop the fan when the door is open; press and hold the door switch to force it on.
- Check for ice obstruction: Remove the freezer rear panel. If the fan blades are encased in ice, defrost the area with towels and a fan. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
- Inspect fan motor: Spin the fan blade by hand; it should move freely. If stiff or seized, replace the evaporator fan motor.
- Verify wiring: Ensure the fan harness is fully connected and not damaged.
- Control board: If the fan motor tests good for resistance and receives no voltage when it should be running, the main control board may be faulty and requires professional diagnosis.
