Possible Causes
Burned-out evaporator fan motor, Ice or debris blocking fan blade, Damaged fan wiring harness, Faulty main control board output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing the freezer rear panel or touching the fan.
EF specifically points to an evaporator fan problem.
- Access fan: Remove freezer drawers and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
- Clear obstructions: Check for ice buildup or foreign objects around the fan blade. Defrost any ice with warm air and towels.
- Test fan motor: Spin the blade by hand. If it binds or feels rough, replace the fan motor. Use a multimeter to check for proper resistance across the motor leads.
- Check voltage: With the unit powered and calling for cooling (door switch held closed), carefully measure voltage at the fan connector. If no voltage is present but the board should be driving the fan, suspect the main control board.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing the fan, reassemble panels, restore power, and monitor temperatures for 24 hours.
