Possible Causes
Shorted or open temperature sensor, Damaged sensor harness, Poor connection at control board, Defective main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing sensors or the control board.
ES is a general sensor circuit error.
- Run self-diagnostics: Many GE Café models allow entering service mode via button combinations (see tech sheet). Use this to identify which sensor is failing.
- Inspect suspect sensor: Once identified (fresh food, freezer, ambient, etc.), locate and visually inspect the thermistor and its wiring.
- Test resistance: Remove the sensor and measure resistance at a known temperature. Replace if readings are out of specification.
- Check connectors: Ensure the sensor connector at the main control board is clean and fully seated.
- Board replacement: If all sensors and wiring test good, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and should be replaced by a professional.
