Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, Open compressor overload, Faulty main control board not sending power, Failed inverter board on variable-speed compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and keep it unplugged while working near the compressor or control boards.
When both compartments are warm but lights work, the sealed system is not running.
- Listen for compressor: With the unit plugged in, you should hear a low hum and feel vibration at the compressor. Repeated clicking without running suggests a start device issue.
- Check condenser fan: If the condenser fan is not running, the compressor may also not be powered. Inspect the fan for obstructions and test the motor.
- Inspect start device: Remove the rear access panel. Carefully pull off the start relay/overload from the compressor terminals. Shake it gently; if it rattles or shows burn marks, replace it.
- Test compressor windings: With power off, measure resistance between compressor terminals. If readings are open or shorted to ground, the compressor is failed and requires professional replacement.
- Control board check: If the start device and compressor test good but no power is sent, the main control or inverter board may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a technician.
