Display shows CF; refrigerator may not cool properly; fans may not run as expected.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing control boards, fans, or wiring. Capacitors on inverter boards can hold a charge; avoid touching board components directly.
Step 1 – Power reset:
- Unplug the refrigerator or turn off the breaker for 5 minutes.
- Restore power and observe if the CF code clears temporarily.
Step 2 – Inspect wiring to fans:
- Remove the rear lower access panel to expose the condenser fan and wiring.
- Check the harness connectors for corrosion, loose pins, or damage.
- Follow the harness up to the main control board (often in a rear or top compartment) and ensure all plugs are fully seated.
Step 3 – Test fan operation:
- With power restored, verify that the condenser and evaporator fans run when the compressor is operating.
- If a fan does not run, unplug the unit and test the fan motor for continuity with a multimeter.
- Replace the condenser fan motor or evaporator fan motor if open or shorted.
Step 4 – Inspect inverter (if equipped):
- On some GE Monogram models, the compressor is controlled by an inverter board mounted near the compressor.
- Check the low-voltage communication harness between the main control and inverter for damage.
- Look for burn marks or bulging components on the inverter board.
Step 5 – Control board diagnosis:
- If wiring and fans test good, the CF code may indicate a failing main control board.
- Compare voltage readings to the tech sheet specifications (if you are qualified to do so).
- Replace the main control board if it is not sending proper signals.
When to call a technician: Communication and inverter issues can be complex. If you are not experienced with electrical testing, contact a GE Monogram technician for accurate diagnosis and safe repair.
