Display shows CF; refrigerator may not cool properly; fans may not run as expected.

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing control boards, fans, or wiring. Capacitors on inverter boards can hold a charge; avoid touching board components directly.

Step 1 – Power reset:

• Unplug the refrigerator or turn off the breaker for 5 minutes.
• Restore power and observe if the CF code clears temporarily.

Step 2 – Inspect wiring to fans:

• Remove the rear lower access panel to expose the condenser fan and wiring.
• Check the harness connectors for corrosion, loose pins, or damage.
• Follow the harness up to the main control board (often in a rear or top compartment) and ensure all plugs are fully seated.

Step 3 – Test fan operation:

• With power restored, verify that the condenser and evaporator fans run when the compressor is operating.
• If a fan does not run, unplug the unit and test the fan motor for continuity with a multimeter.
• Replace the condenser fan motor or evaporator fan motor if open or shorted.

Step 4 – Inspect inverter (if equipped):

• On some GE Monogram models, the compressor is controlled by an inverter board mounted near the compressor.
• Check the low-voltage communication harness between the main control and inverter for damage.
• Look for burn marks or bulging components on the inverter board.

Step 5 – Control board diagnosis:

• If wiring and fans test good, the CF code may indicate a failing main control board.
• Compare voltage readings to the tech sheet specifications (if you are qualified to do so).
• Replace the main control board if it is not sending proper signals.
