Possible Causes

Ice maker module failure, Frozen or blocked fill tube, Low water pressure to refrigerator, Faulty ice maker fill valve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the ice maker and unplug the refrigerator before removing ice maker components. Shut off the household water supply to the refrigerator if disconnecting water lines.

Step 1 – Confirm ice maker is turned on:

  • On GE Monogram models, verify the ice maker power switch or control setting is in the ON position.
  • Check the display for any additional ice-related icons or lock indicators.

Step 2 – Inspect the ice bin and ice maker:

  • Remove the ice bin and check for clumped or melted/refrozen ice that could jam the auger or feeler arm.
  • Clear any ice jams and reinstall the bin properly.
  • Inspect the ice maker assembly for broken ejector blades or a stuck feeler arm/shutter.

Step 3 – Check the water supply:

  • Verify the saddle valve or shutoff valve supplying the refrigerator is fully open.
  • Disconnect the water line at the rear and briefly open the valve into a bucket to confirm strong flow.
  • If flow is weak, address household plumbing or filter restrictions.

Step 4 – Inspect the fill tube for ice blockage:

  • Locate the plastic fill tube entering the ice maker.
  • If it is frozen, use a hair dryer on low to gently thaw the ice. Do not use sharp tools.
  • Check for leaks at the fill tube connection that could cause refreezing.

Step 5 – Test the ice maker fill valve:

  • With the unit unplugged, access the rear lower panel to locate the dual water inlet valve.
  • Inspect wiring connections and look for cracks or mineral buildup.
  • If you have a multimeter and tech sheet, test the valve coil resistance. Replace the valve if out of spec or if it fails to open when commanded.

Step 6 – Ice maker module replacement:

  • If water supply and valve are good but the ice maker does not cycle, the ice maker assembly may be defective.
  • Remove mounting screws, disconnect the harness, and install a GE-compatible replacement module.

When to call a technician: If CI persists after verifying water supply, thawing the fill tube, and replacing the ice maker, a control board or communication issue may exist and should be handled by a professional.
