Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing fresh food interior panels or working near fans.
Step 1 – Check airflow in fresh food section:
- Place your hand near the rear vents in the refrigerator compartment.
- Weak or no airflow suggests a fan or ice blockage issue.
Step 2 – Access fresh food evaporator and fan:
- Remove shelves and the rear panel in the fresh food section.
- Inspect the evaporator coil and fan for heavy frost or ice.
- If iced over, perform a manual defrost and then test the defrost system as described in defrost fault entries.
Step 3 – Test fan motor:
- With the unit unplugged, spin the fan blade by hand; it should move freely.
- Test the fan motor for continuity with a multimeter.
- Replace the fresh food evaporator fan motor if open or seized.
Step 4 – Check thermistor and control:
- Test the fresh food thermistor resistance and replace if out of spec.
- If fan and thermistor are good, the main control board may not be powering the fan correctly and may require replacement.
When to call a technician: For persistent FFS codes or if you suspect a control board issue, contact a GE Monogram technician.
