Possible Causes
Open or shorted fresh food thermistor, Damaged thermistor harness, Corroded connector at control board, Main control board sensor input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before testing or replacing sensors.
- Locate thermistor: Find the fresh food thermistor (often behind a small cover on the rear wall). Remove the cover carefully.
- Inspect wiring: Check for broken or chewed wires and secure connections.
- Test thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at a known temperature (e.g., in ice water). Compare to GE specifications; replace if out of range or open/shorted.
- Check board connector: At the main control board, reseat the thermistor connector. If a new thermistor does not clear F1, the board may be defective.
