Possible Causes
Failed fresh food thermistor, Failed freezer thermistor, Thermistor dislodged from mounting location, Wiring harness damage to sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing interior panels or wiring.
- Identify which compartment: On some models, tC refers to fresh food thermistor and tF to freezer thermistor. Check the tech sheet for mapping.
- Locate thermistors: Thermistors are small, usually white or black plastic sensors clipped to the liner wall or evaporator tubing. Remove the interior cover as needed.
- Inspect mounting: Ensure the thermistor is firmly clipped in place and not hanging loose, which can cause incorrect readings.
- Check wiring: Follow the thermistor wires to the connector. Look for pinched, broken, or corroded wires. Reseat the connector.
- Replace faulty thermistor: If available, test resistance at known temperatures (e.g., in ice water). If readings are out of spec or open, replace the thermistor with the correct GE part.
