Possible Causes

Faulty magnetic reed switch or mechanical door switch, Misaligned door causing poor magnet alignment, Broken door switch wiring, Defective door sensor input on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing door switch housings or control covers.

Steps:

  • Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket is not obstructed by food packages or shelves.
  • Locate the door switch: On many Gorenje models, the switch is in the door frame near the top or bottom, or a magnetic sensor is hidden behind the liner.
  • Test the switch: For mechanical switches, press the plunger and listen for a click. Remove the switch, disconnect it, and test continuity with a multimeter while pressing and releasing.
  • Magnetic sensor: If a magnet is embedded in the door, ensure it is still present and aligned with the sensor area. A missing or displaced magnet can cause E12.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the switch to the control board for damage, especially near hinge areas.
  • Replace faulty switch or magnet: Install a new Gorenje door switch or magnet as required. Ensure it sits flush and is firmly secured.
  • Test: Restore power and open/close the door. The interior light and alarm should behave normally, and E12 should clear.
