Display shows E8; refrigerator and freezer both warm or not reaching set temperatures.

Critical safety warning: Work on compressor and mains components only with the appliance unplugged. Do not attempt sealed system repairs (refrigerant) without proper certification.

Basic checks:

• Listen for compressor: After plugging in, listen at the back. If you hear repeated clicking but no steady hum, the start device may be failing.
• Access the compressor area: Unplug the unit, remove the rear lower cover to expose the compressor and start device (PTC or inverter module).
• Inspect wiring and connectors: Ensure all spade connectors are tight and there are no burnt marks on the start relay or inverter casing.
• Test the PTC/start relay (non-inverter models): Remove the start device from the compressor pins and shake it gently; if it rattles or shows burn marks, replace it. Measure compressor winding resistances to ensure they are not open or shorted.
• Inverter models: Check the DC supply to the inverter (from the main PCB) and the harness between inverter and compressor. If the inverter module is visibly damaged or smells burnt, it likely needs replacement.
• Replace faulty start device or inverter: Order the exact Gorenje part number for your model. Install the new module on the compressor pins and reconnect wiring as originally.
• Test operation: Restore power and allow 10–15 minutes. The compressor should start and E8 should clear if the fault is resolved.

Important: If the compressor windings are out of spec or the compressor overheats and trips repeatedly, the compressor itself may be failing and requires professional sealed-system service.
