Possible Causes
Defective magnetic door reed switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken door switch wiring in cabinet, Faulty door sensor input on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing trims or accessing wiring.
- Check door operation: Open and close the affected door while observing the interior light and fan. If they do not respond correctly, a door sensor issue is likely.
- Locate door sensor: On many Grundig models, the door sensor is a magnetic reed switch embedded in the cabinet frame, activated by a magnet in the door. Look for a small plastic cover or sensor area around the top or side of the opening.
- Inspect magnet and alignment: Ensure the door gasket and hinge are not warped, causing misalignment. Verify the magnet is present and firmly seated in the door edge.
- Test the reed switch (if accessible): With the unit unplugged, access the switch wiring and test continuity while placing a magnet near the sensor. Replace the switch if it does not open/close correctly.
- Check wiring: Look for pinched or broken wires where they enter the cabinet. These may require professional repair if embedded in foam.
- Replace faulty sensor: Install a compatible Grundig door reed switch or sensor assembly. Refit any covers and ensure the door closes smoothly.
- Restore power and test: Plug the fridge back in and verify that the E6 code clears and that lights/fans respond correctly to door opening.
If the sensor and wiring are good, the main PCB input circuit may be faulty and should be evaluated by a service technician.
