Possible Causes
Failed DC evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Loose or burned fan connector, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Disconnect mains power before accessing the fan area. Fan blades can be sharp.
- Listen for fan operation: After closing the door switch (press it by hand) and with the unit powered (for testing only), you should normally hear the fan. If silent and E7 is displayed, proceed with checks after unplugging.
- Access the fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel in the affected compartment to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- Check for ice blockage: Inspect the fan blades and surrounding shroud for ice buildup. If present, fully defrost the area and ensure the drain is not blocked.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Verify the fan motor plug is firmly connected and wires are not damaged.
- Test fan motor: With the fridge unplugged, disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. On DC fans, you may also bench-test with a suitable low-voltage DC supply if you are qualified.
- Replace fan motor: Install a Grundig-compatible evaporator fan motor, transfer any brackets or grommets, and ensure the blades spin freely.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and confirm that the fan runs and the E7 code clears after a short operating period.
If the fan tests good but does not receive voltage, the main control board or fan driver may be defective and should be checked by a professional.
