Possible Causes

Failed freezer NTC sensor, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged harness between freezer sensor and PCB, Faulty main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect power before removing panels or handling wiring. Sharp metal edges inside the freezer can cause cuts—wear cut-resistant gloves.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  • 1. Power cycle: Unplug the refrigerator for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 reappears, continue with hardware checks.
  • 2. Access the freezer sensor: Remove freezer drawers/shelves. The Haier freezer sensor is typically clipped to the evaporator cover or embedded in the liner behind a small cover. Remove the cover screws and gently pull the cover forward.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Look for ice buildup around the sensor, broken insulation, or damaged wires. If the sensor is encased in heavy ice, defrost the unit fully (24–48 hours with doors open and towels to catch water) and then recheck.
  • 4. Electrical test: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the expected NTC resistance chart for your model. Replace the sensor if it reads open, shorted, or far out of spec.
  • 5. Harness and PCB check: If the sensor is good, check continuity from the sensor connector to the main PCB. Repair any damaged wires or terminals. If wiring is intact and E1 persists, the main PCB may be defective.
  • 6. Replace the sensor: Install a new Haier freezer temperature sensor, routing the leads along the original path and securing them away from moving fan blades. Reinstall the evaporator cover and ensure no wires are pinched.

Note: After replacement, clear the error by unplugging for a few minutes. Monitor freezer temperature for several hours.
