Possible Causes
Failed DC evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the fan. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp—wear gloves.
Steps:
- 1. Listen for fan: With doors closed for several minutes, then opened, you should normally hear the evaporator fan. If silent and EA is displayed, suspect the fan circuit.
- 2. Access fan: Remove freezer drawers and the rear panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly. On some Haier models, there is also a separate refrigerator compartment fan behind an interior panel.
- 3. Check for ice blockage: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud or blades. If present, fully defrost the unit and correct any underlying defrost issues.
- 4. Spin test: Gently spin the fan blades by hand. They should rotate freely. If stiff or seized, replace the fan motor assembly.
- 5. Electrical test: With power disconnected, check resistance of the fan motor windings (for DC fans, you may see several hundred ohms). An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- 6. Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the fan to the main PCB for damage or loose connectors. Repair as needed.
- 7. Replace fan motor: Install a new Haier evaporator fan motor assembly, ensuring correct orientation and secure mounting. Route wires away from moving parts.
Note: After replacement, reassemble panels carefully to avoid air leaks that can cause frost and noise.
