Display shows E8; refrigerator may not respond correctly to temperature adjustments or may cool excessively.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing any sensor wiring. Avoid damaging cabinet insulation when locating sensors.
Procedure:
- 1. Identify ambient sensor location: On many Hansa models, the ambient sensor is located near the front control panel or behind a small grille on the top or rear of the cabinet.
- 2. Access the sensor: Remove the control panel cover or grille as needed. Carefully pull out the sensor probe and connector.
- 3. Visual check: Inspect the sensor for physical damage or corrosion at the connector.
- 4. Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values. If the reading is open or shorted, the sensor is faulty.
- 5. Check wiring: If the sensor tests OK, check continuity from the sensor connector to the main control board. Repair any breaks or shorts.
- 6. Replace faulty parts: Install a new ambient temperature NTC sensor if needed. If wiring and sensor are good but E8 persists, the main control board may require replacement.
Note: An incorrect ambient reading can cause the refrigerator to overcool or undercool, so resolving E8 is important for proper operation.
