Possible Causes
Open or shorted freezer thermistor, Damaged harness in freezer door or liner, Moisture intrusion at sensor connector, Failed main PCB freezer sensor channel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing panels or working near wiring.
- 1. Confirm the error: Note if the freezer is too warm or too cold. Unplug for 5 minutes and restore power to see if E1 reappears.
- 2. Access the freezer sensor: Remove shelves and drawers as needed. Locate the small sensor cover on the rear or side wall of the freezer compartment. Remove the cover to expose the thermistor.
- 3. Visual inspection: Look for ice buildup around the sensor, damaged insulation, or loose connectors. Defrost any heavy ice with a hair dryer on low (do not overheat plastic) while the unit is unplugged.
- 4. Test the thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at freezer temperature (or let it warm to room temperature and test). Compare to expected NTC values (typically several kΩ at room temp). Replace if reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
- 5. Check wiring to main board: Inspect the harness from the freezer compartment to the rear control board area. Look for pinched or broken wires, especially where they pass through the cabinet. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- 6. Replace components as needed: Install a new Hisense freezer thermistor if faulty. If the sensor and wiring are good but E1 persists, the main PCB may require replacement.
Call a professional if you cannot access the sensor safely or do not have a meter to test it.
