Display shows E8 and the compressor may not start or may run only briefly before stopping.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator. Work at the rear only when power is disconnected. Compressor and inverter circuits carry dangerous voltages.
- 1. Listen for compressor behavior: After restoring power (for observation only), note if the compressor attempts to start (clicking or brief hum) then stops. Unplug again before further work.
- 2. Inspect inverter module: On inverter models, a separate inverter board is mounted near the compressor. Check for burnt smell, discoloration, or cracked components.
- 3. Check wiring: Ensure the harness between main PCB and inverter, and between inverter and compressor, is secure and undamaged.
- 4. Basic compressor test: With power off and inverter disconnected, measure resistance between compressor terminals. All three windings should show similar low resistance and no continuity to ground. If windings are shorted or open, the compressor is faulty.
- 5. Replace faulty parts: If compressor tests good but E8 persists, the inverter board is the likely failure. Replace with the correct Hisense inverter module. If the compressor is defective, a sealed system repair by a licensed technician is required.
Important: Do not attempt sealed system or refrigerant work without proper certification and tools.
