Possible Causes
Open or shorted freezer thermistor, Damaged thermistor harness in freezer, Connector corrosion at thermistor, Failed thermistor input on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before removing panels or handling wiring.
Steps:
- Locate freezer thermistor: Typically clipped to the evaporator cover or side wall in the freezer section.
- Visual inspection: Look for ice buildup around the sensor, broken insulation, or loose connectors.
- Defrost if necessary: If the thermistor is encased in ice, fully defrost the freezer (power off, doors open, towels to catch water) and then recheck operation.
- Test thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at known temperature. Compare to service specs. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Check harness to board: Ensure the harness from the freezer thermistor to the main control board is intact and firmly connected.
If the thermistor and wiring test good but E2 remains, the main control board is likely faulty and should be replaced.
