Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the freezer back panel or touching the fan assembly.
Check the fan area:
- Remove freezer drawers and the rear evaporator cover (usually held by screws).
- Inspect the evaporator fan for ice buildup, foreign objects, or broken blades.
- Spin the fan blades by hand; they should move freely without grinding.
Electrical checks:
- With power disconnected, check the fan motor connector for secure fit and no corrosion.
- Measure resistance across the fan motor terminals; an open circuit indicates a failed motor (compare to service specs).
Corrective action: Defrost any ice blocking the fan, reassemble, and restore power. If the fan does not run and E3 persists, replace the evaporator fan motor. If a new motor does not resolve the error, the main control board may be defective.
